A nursing business, private-duty clinical care and nurse staffing, bills for licensed hours, and licensed hours are billed differently than anything else in home care: by shift, at credential-tied rates, against care plans, to two very different payers, families purchasing private-duty care, and facilities purchasing staffing coverage. Accepting payments here means running both lanes on their own rails without letting either wait on the other. Here is the setup.

Part of a bigger question. This is one example of a broader topic — How Do I Build Business Credit?. Start there if you want the full picture.
How nursing money actually arrives
The lanes. Private-duty care. Families purchasing skilled nursing hours at home, billed weekly or biweekly from shift records, at rates tied to credential level and shift type. Days. Nights. Weekends. Holidays. Facility staffing. Hospitals, clinics, and residential facilities purchasing coverage, invoiced per shift worked at contracted rates, on business terms. Insurance-adjacent flows. Where a family holds applicable coverage such as long-term care policies, they commonly pay the business directly and seek reimbursement with your documentation. And assessments or care-plan fees at intake where charged. Two payer types, one common core: the shift record is the invoice's spine.

By the numbers (July 28, 2026)
Square prices this lane at 3.3% + 30¢ online or on a card-paid invoice in 2026. A $4,800 biweekly shift invoice costs $159 to process. The ACH route, 1% with a $10 ceiling, costs $10.00 and keeps $149. Shift records build the invoice; bank transfer suits the amount.
The private-duty lane: shift-built invoices on autopay
Family billing runs on the caregiving industry's best mechanics, upgraded for clinical detail. Invoices built from verified shift records: dates, shift types, hours, credential level, rates, itemized so the family sees exactly what care was delivered. A fixed billing rhythm, weekly or biweekly, with autopay on a stored bank method or card authorized at the start of care, bank rails presented first at recurring clinical-care amounts. Statements addressed to every authorized family contact. And a deposit or first-week prepayment at service start per policy. Square's invoicing with stored methods carries the lane, per the recommendation above, and the itemization does double duty when reimbursement paperwork begins.
The staffing lane: facility invoices on business terms
Facility clients pay like the institutions they are, and the lane runs on staffing-industry discipline. Contracted rates by credential and shift type in a master agreement, with overtime, holiday, and cancellation terms stated. Invoices generated from confirmed shift records, weekly or per the contract, referencing what the facility's payables system needs, units, cost centers, purchase orders, with payment links embedded and bank-transfer details prominent. Terms tracked, follow-ups on a standing calendar, and rate escalations handled in writing at renewal. Staffing receivables age when shift records and invoices disagree, so the confirmation habit, facility sign-off on hours before invoicing, is the collections program.

Try Square →Rates, differentials, and billing the clinical reality
Nursing rates carry structure most billing setups flatten, and the money leaks in the flattening. The rate sheet, per lane, states base rates by credential level. Shift differentials for nights, weekends, and holidays. Overtime terms. Minimum-shift lengths. Travel or on-call charges where applicable. Every invoice applies the structure exactly, and every rate change arrives in writing before it bills. In private-duty especially, the differential conversation happens at care planning, not on the first holiday invoice. A surprise differential is how a clinical relationship becomes a billing argument. The structure priced in daylight is simply the cost of around-the-clock competence.

Start With MyCorp →Care changes, documentation, and the reimbursement-ready file
Clinical care changes, hours increase, acuity shifts, schedules move, and the billing must move with it in writing. Care-plan changes confirmed with their financial effect before they bill. Shift records maintained to the standard that satisfies three audiences at once: the family reading the invoice, the insurer processing a reimbursement claim against your documentation, and any applicable regulatory reviewer. Where public programs or benefits fund any portion of care, their billing rules are followed exactly, on their systems, per their documentation requirements. In licensed care, the documentation standard is not administrative overhead. It is what makes every dollar collectible.
